Even when it’s gray, concrete is green.

Concrete is an environmentally sound building material.  Concrete’s environmentally friendly features make it the building material of choice for sustainability….meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Loven Ready Mix is committed to sustainability and environmental conservation.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally-recognized green building certification system. Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council in March 2000, LEED provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. The USGBC allows credits for using concrete in green building practices.   Concrete produced by Loven Ready Mix earns credits toward LEED accreditation.  Some examples of the credits are below.

LEED Credit 5 – Regional Materials

Credit for materials that are mined and extracted regionally based on the distance of 500 miles or less from the mining operation to the concrete plant, and the plant to the job site. Loven Ready Mix uses 100% regional materials

LEED Credit 4 – Recycled Content

Credit for using recycled products that are added to the concrete. This includes admixtures such as fly ash or slag. Loven Ready Mix uses fly ash in concrete mixes to achieve this credit.

LEED Credit 7 – Heat Island Effect

Credit for a material’s ability to reject solar heat.  The light color of concrete makes this a option for this credit. Points can be awarded for outdoor areas such as parking lots, sidewalks, driveways, etc.
